In 2008 John made a significant career change, having had a successful career in retail, John left the sector to start a career in further education. John joined Highfield.co.uk, an ambitions business who had aspirations to become a UK based Awarding Organisation operating on a global basis.
John was responsible for all business operations which included securing Ofqual (including Wales and Northern Ireland), SQA and SIA approvals and subsequent ongoing compliance with government and regulatory criteria, overseeing all operational activity.
John oversaw the growth of the business from being the first employee to a compliment of over 200 full and part time staff along with a host of associate freelance experts.
John helped to grow the business to become a UK top 5 Awarding Organisation, issuing over a quarter of a million certificates per year. Additionally, John was seconded to Dubai on more than one occasion to establish and grow the business in a new market place.
The overseas trips included securing approval to offer qualifications to UAE government departments; Dubai Accreditation Centre (ISO9001), along with business development opportunities with world renound brands such as Emirates Airline and Jumeirah Hotels to name a couple.
After establishing one of the UK’s leading Awarding Organisations, John switched from the awarding of qualifications, to the delivery of qualifications in a move that saw him employed by a number of the UK’s largest training providers. Here, John’s reputations helped to secure contracts with the likes of The Premier League, XPO Logistics, Tesco, Hovis and DHL to name a few.
John currently manages the roll out and implementation of the Degree Apprenticeship provision, working closely with industry experts in the development process and ensuring employers and learners receive an outstanding offering. John has a very pragmatic and logical approach to project management with a very clear strategic focus.
